The Cultural Heritage Museum is dedicated to tracking the history of South Dakota, from its settlement by Europeans up through the present, by using a series of exciting hands-on exhibits. The museum is located three-fourths of a mile northeast of the state capitol, in the sprawling farmlands just outside of the city. The Heritage Museum is built as a modern representation of a classic Native American hill dwelling, as it is built in the side of the hill, and much of its exhibition space is located underground.
